Binaural audio, also known as binaural beats or holophonic sound, is a technique for recording and playing back sounds that creates the illusion that the sound source is coming from different positions in 3D space. It works by recording and playing back sounds to mimic how our ears naturally hear sounds in 3D. Specifically, it takes advantage of interactions between the different auditory impulses that reach each ear from below 1000-1500 Hz to create this effect. Binaural audio has applications in relaxation, meditation, entertainment and medical research.
